We’re already in the 90s.

But it feels like triple-digit weather, according to Channel 2 Action News.

The heat index was 100 degrees in Rome and 99 degrees in Atlanta just before 12:35 p.m.

Highs will reach 96 degrees Friday and Saturday in Atlanta, and it will feel even hotter elsewhere in Georgia.

“That’s getting into the range of being dangerous,” meteorologist Brad Nitz said.

Temperatures were 94 degrees in Atlanta, 88 degrees in Blairsville and 94 degrees in Griffin, just after 5:30 p.m.

The National Weather Service issued heat advisories at about 3:30 a.m. for coastal Chatham County and other north and central Georgia counties.

The Chatham advisory warns people that heat index values will cause temperatures to feel between 108 and 113 degrees.

People who have to work outside are asked to “drink plenty of fluids;” wear lightweight clothing; and stay out of direct sunlight.

Another advisory for counties including Putnam and Greene has heat index values ranging from 105 to 108 degrees.

Both advisories will remain in effect through 8 p.m.

There is a 10 percent chance of rain through Saturday and a 30 percent chance of scattered showers and storms Sunday.
