Traffic is moving, the sun is shining and it’s Friday — can’t ask for much more.

Aside from some typical congestion on the Downtown Connector and a problem area or two, the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center is showing traffic moving at a decent pace along metro Atlanta's interstates.

There is a small hiccup near Decatur as crews are working to repair a damaged water main in the 700 block of Coventry Drive, the DeKalb County Department of Watershed Management said.

There’s also a wreck on I-20 at Riverside Parkway in Cobb County that has two left lanes blocked, causing delays, according to the Traffic Center.

It’s been a brutal weather week for North Georgia. Parts of Floyd County and Polk County were underwater, severe thunderstorms tore through metro Atlanta and Walton County even got hit by a tornado.

But the worst is behind us, Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Karen Minton said.

The chance of rain is 30 percent Friday and this weekend, and it’s because the weather pattern that’s been soaking Georgia will start to shift, according to Channel 2.

“The rain is not coming to an end, but a downturn, and we’ll see it just scattered as we head through the weekend,” Minton said.

It was good news for the thousands more metro Atlanta students who headed back to school Friday. Rain chances remain low through the beginning of next week, when DeKalb, Fulton, Gwinnett, Clayton and several other districts will start the school year.

Because of all the rain, the Georgia Department of Transportation hasn’t been able to get much road construction done this week. But that changed Friday.

Decatur Street will be closed between Piedmont Avenue and Peachtree Center Avenue from 7 p.m. Friday until 6 a.m. Monday, GDOT said. Contractors are setting bridge beams for the new Courtland Street bridge.
