A confirmed tornado was spotted at about 5 p.m. at the Fulton-Coweta county line, as storms bringing heavy precipitation and strong winds moved across north Georgia.
Forecasts of up to 2 to 3 inches of rain prompted a flood watch through Thursday morning for all of north Georgia.
Statewide, about 8,000 Georgia Power customers were without electricity, and the majority were in the metro Atlanta area, according to the utility.
The storm moved rapidly, and all tornado warnings expired at 5:15 p.m.
The severe threat for the metro area had passed by about 7:15 p.m., according to Channel 2 Action News Chief Meteorologist Glenn Burns.
