Scattered showers on the eastern side of the state will break up and move out overnight.

Your commute home from work may be a little wet in some spots, but expect a drier drive Friday morning.

Channel 2 Action News chief meteorologist Glenn Burns said a wedge of cool air makes for varied temperatures across metro Atlanta. But temperatures on average will be about 60 degrees overnight, he said.

The area is expected to continue to see scattered showers until the weekend.

There is an 80 percent chance of rain Friday. The forecast calls for rain to start after morning rush hour.

Showers and storms will continue overnight Friday.

“Then Saturday starts the clearing process,” meteorologist Karen Minton said.

Parts of metro Atlanta could get up to 3 inches of rainfall by 7 a.m. Saturday, but most of the metro area will get less than that.

The rain is expected to bring cooler temperatures over the next few days.

Atlanta is expected to reach a high of only 72 degrees Friday, and highs will stay in the 70s through Sunday.

Temperatures were 75 degrees in Atlanta, 64 degrees in Blairsville and 76 degrees in Griffin at 8 p.m.
