Sunlight peeked between lingering clouds covering metro Atlanta Monday, and rain stayed west of Georgia all together, according to Channel 2 Action News.

That will change later this week, when the metro area can expect mostly cloudy skies and showers.

“It’s looking like we are going to have an unsettled week across the metro area and north Georgia,” Channel 2 meteorologist Karen Minton said.

Clouds are expected to increase by 9 p.m. Monday and a warm front impacting central Florida is expected to move north overnight and early Tuesday, Channel 2 meteorologist Brad Nitz said.

“Can’t rule out a stray shower tomorrow morning, but your rain chance the first part of the day is very low,” he said. “Only 20 percent. But that rain chance increases as we head into the afternoon.”

The forecast calls for some scattered showers and a few storms Tuesday afternoon and evening, Nitz said. The rain isn’t expected to amount to more than a half-inch in most metro areas.

The chance of rain increases to 60 percent Friday, and showers are expected to last through the weekend.

Despite the trend of wet weather, expect temperatures in the low 80s Tuesday and Wednesday.

Temperatures were 75 degrees in Atlanta, 68 degrees in Blairsville and 76 degrees in Griffin just after 7 p.m. The expected high in Atlanta was 76 degrees.
