Slightly warmer days will be here again, metro Atlanta.

High pressure moving east, southeasterly winds and lots of sunshine are helping warm temperatures, which will break into the upper 60s by 4 p.m. Tuesday and continue to increase throughout the week.

Temperatures will hit the low 70s Wednesday.

“On Thursday, clouds are coming in,” Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Karen Minton said.

The clouds will bring temperatures down for a longer portion of the day, but highs will still reach the 70s.

However, “it’s a pretty good bet for the showers on Thursday,” Minton said. “Early on Friday morning, probably when you’re still asleep, we’ll see a few and they’re tapering off, and it dries out.”

Winds were traveling at 7 mph early Tuesday afternoon and should only increase to about 15 mph.

“The winds will pick up a little around the metro area, but we’re not going to be strong and gusty,” Minton said.

Temperatures were 57 degrees in Atlanta, 51 degrees in Blairsville and 57 degrees in Griffin just after 1 p.m.

“Our average is 66, and we’re going to be close to that today,” Minton said. “By evening time, after the sun sets, those temperatures start dropping.”

After several days of extremely high pollen, the area's pollen count dropped, too.

Tuesday's count was 670 particles of pollen per cubic meter of air — following the highest pollen count of the season so far Saturday at 2,890 particles. However, that was still less than last year's season high of 6,152 on April 9.
