The scattered storms that moved into metro Atlanta late this afternoon were just the beginning. There will be a lot more where that came from.

“We don’t have any cold coming, but the threat is for rain and strong storms,” Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brad Nitz said.

Today’s inclement weather caused the CounterPoint Music Festival to be suspended late in the afternoon. Festival officials were coordinating with Floyd and Bartow County officials to monitor conditions and determine when performances would resume, according to a news release.

Prelude: Monday afternoon will be hit-or-miss for showers, particularly during the evening rush hour, Nitz said. There is a 40 percent chance of rain, with highs in the the low 80s. The bulk of the rain will move in overnight and into Tuesday, according to Nitz.

Main event: There is a 100 percent chance of rain Tuesday. "We could have widespread, heavy rain for the morning commute," Nitz said. There is a threat for strong to severe storms, and isolated tornadoes can't be ruled out, he said. Flooding is also a concern. Two to four inches of rain are expected in metro Atlanta and northern Georgia. Highs will be in the mid-70s with a low of 66.

Time to move on: Rain will linger into Wednesday morning, with a 70 percent chance of showers. Highs will be in the mid-70s, with lows in the mid-60s.
