A flash flood watch is in effect through Thursday morning for north and portions of central Georgia, including the metro Atlanta area, the National Weather Service said tonight.
“A slow moving area of heavy rain will move across the watch area tonight into early Thursday,” the NWS said. “Rainfall amounts of 2 to 4 inches can be expected with isolated higher amounts possible.”
The NWS said there is a potential for heavy showers in a short period of time.
All that rain will bring cooler temperatures to the area.
Wednesday storm damage
There were reports of trees down and power outages from scattered storms.
In Gwinnett County, a large pine tree fell on a house in the 1740 block of Mission Park Court in Loganville. The tree went through the garage and kitchen and caused extensive damage, Gwinnett fire Capt. Tommy Rutledge said. A woman in the home at the time was not injured.
Several trees were also reported down in Hall County.
Thursday rain
There is a 60 percent chance of rain Thursday morning, but it should taper off in the afternoon, Channel 2 Action News chief meteorologist Glenn Burns said.
Chilly temps
Temperatures, which reached the 80s Wednesday, will decline over the next few days.
Thursday’s high will be in the mid-60s, Burns said. Friday should reach 70 degrees, but the low that day will be in the upper 40s.
