Rain dried as some parts of metro Atlanta entered a lull Friday evening.

But it didn’t last long. Showers became increasingly isolated through the afternoon, and some of them strengthened.

A severe thunderstorm warning was issued for Cherokee and Pickens counties at 8 p.m., according to Channel 2 Action News, but lasted 30 minutes.

Temperatures were 69 degrees in Atlanta, 54 degrees in Blairsville and 66 degrees in Griffin just after 8:30 p.m.

Temps in Atlanta increased to the low 70s during the evening commute, when rainfall lessened.

Heavier rain picked up in the early evening when a cold front made its way into the heart of metro Atlanta.

Wet weather was expected to clear up by 11 p.m.

“Overnight tonight, we’ll be seeing those showers and storms clearing out of north Georgia followed by high pressure,” Channel 2 meteorologist Katie Walls said.

Highs will increase to the mid- to upper 70s Saturday and linger in the 80s Sunday through Tuesday. Conditions will stay dry through Wednesday, meteorologists said.

The pollen count, which has fluctuated this week, dropped to 111 particles of pollen per cubic meter of air Friday. That's well below the current season high of 4,107 and last year's season high of 6,152.
