Three Taverns Brewery recently collaborated with Grammy Award-winning metal rock band, Mastodon, to create a new limited edition hazy IPA called Teardrinker.

Three Taverns has had an ongoing creative relationship with Mastodon, and drummer/singer Brann Dailor, who is a patron of the brewery and a big fan of New England IPAs.

Tonight, at Three Taverns Imaginarium on Memorial Drive, members of Mastodon will be celebrating the release of Teardrinker, with a special album listening party for the band’s new album, “Hushed & Grim.”

And with all that going on, Teardrinker is this week’s Beer Pick

Teardrinker Hazy IPA

Three Taverns Brewery, Decatur, GA

Available in 16-ounce four-pack cans

Profile

Brewed in collaboration with Mastodon, Teardrinker is Three Taverns’ new limited edition New England IPA. At 6.2% alcohol, it’s not crazy big. But it’s brewed with a whole bunch of grains, including Pilsner, Golden Promise and honey malt, white wheat, malted oats, and flaked oats. And it’s double dry-hopped with a mighty combo of Idaho 7, Mosaic, Citra, Enigma and Montueka.

The result is a pale, super hazy beer, with plenty of fruit-juicy aromas, among flavors of mango, pineapple and peach, and a lingering dank presence that melds to a bit of a bite in the finish.

Pair with

As always, I say hazy IPAs like Teardrinker make a fun match with Thai and Vietnamese food, especially dishes that feature the bright flavors and aromas of lemongrass, basil and coriander, which easily complement the aromas and flavors of the hops.
