The state’s leading rusher plays for a Class A school with a non-region schedule, but Calhoun County coach Deshon Brock doesn’t believe that should hurt him in the eyes of college coaches, not if they see him live.

“It might hurt a little bit because they might use that as an excuse, but when they see the film, his talent is undeniable,” Brock said. “He’s a home-run threat. He’s got the ability to run away from defensive backs, enough shake to make the first guy miss, he’s physical enough to break tackles, and he can catch balls out of the backfield. I feel he’s the total package as a running back.”

Quinton Edwards, a senior, rushed for 333 yards and six touchdowns on 13 carries in a 58-6 victory over Jordan last week. Edwards’ season total is 1,483 yards. Calhoun County is only 2-5 but averages 37.3 points per game.

Edwards has faced one Top 10 team, undefeated Randolph-Clay, and rushed for 113 yards and two touchdowns on 14 carries in that 62-35 loss.

Edwards has no offers, but Elon and Fort Valley State have shown interest. Edwards is 5 feet, 8 inches, 175 pounds. He also starts at free safety.

Getting Edwards on a college roster would be a big win in Brock’s efforts to get Calhoun County back on a region schedule. The southwest Georgia school better known for its state-contending basketball teams only resumed playing a full 10-game football schedule in 2024. It had played partial schedules or 8-man football since 2020.

Calhoun County was one of 18 GHSA schools without a player on a college roster last season, according to Georgia High School Football Historians researcher Steve Slay. It did not have a signee in its 2026 class, Brock said.

Below are the state’s leading rushers, passers and receivers heading into Week 8.
