A new piece of debris that washed up on Reunion Island is a "domestic ladder," not a piece of a plane, The Associated Press reported Sunday.

Sky News and the BBC previously reported that officials had found an object that was possibly a plane door.

"I read all over media it (the new debris) was part of a door," said Malaysian Director General of Civil Aviation Azharuddin Abdul Rahman. "But I checked with the Civil Aviation Authority, and people on the ground in Reunion, and it was just a domestic ladder."

A previous piece of airplane debris, which investigators believe is a "flaperon" from the wing of a Boeing 777, was found on the island Wednesday. Malaysia Airlines Flight 370, which officials believe crashed into the southern Indian Ocean more than 16 months ago, is the only known missing Boeing 777.

A number seen on the flaperon was identified Thursday as a component number from a Boeing 777, CNN reported. The wreckage has been flown to France, where it will be analyzed by experts.

On Wednesday, Reunion environmental worker Johnny Begue said he also discovered a piece of a suitcase about 2.5 meters away from the debris, but it's unclear whether the two pieces of wreckage are linked.
