State rangers are investigating how a boat apparently capsized on Lake Lanier, causing a woman to drown over the weekend.

Yang Kim, 29, of Buford, was found dead Sunday when rangers discovered a Monterrey boat upside down on a rock cropping near Browns Bridge in the Hall County area of the lake, said Mark McKinnon of the state Department of Natural Resources Monday.

Another boat passenger, Young Tae Shim, 34, also of Buford, was transported to the Northeast Georgia Medical Center and treated and released Sunday, McKinnon said.

The DNR investigative team “has been processing the scene” all Sunday night through Monday and does not expect to complete the investigation into the cause of the accident for a few weeks, McKinnon said.

McKinnon told Channel 2 Action News that only one boat was involved.
