The White House Gift Shop has elected to commemorate this historic time of the coronavirus pandemic with a coin that’s on sale and ready to ship by summer.

The White House Gift Shop recently announced it would introduce its 11th coin out of its online store. The company selling the coin is the privately owned and operated Giannini Strategic Enterprises, LLC, based in Pennsylvania. The coin, representing the Historic Moments Coin Collection, has two versions that recognize the unforeseeable circumstance of COVID-19, which has now affected more than 1 million Americans. The coins have a retail price of $125 but are now on sale for $100 and ship for free before June 15. According to the site, 100% of the profits will be donated to charity.

One coin features an image of the virus’ cells and a message that reads: “Together we fought the unseen enemy. Everyday heroes suited up.”

Another version of the coin features a podium and a background that mirrors the setting of a COVID-19 news briefing. A message on that coin features the names of President Donald J. Trump, Vice President Michael R. Pence, Secretary S. Mnuchin, and Drs. Jerome Adams, Deborah Birx and Anthony Fauci.

The coins are a Giannini series-limited first edition and include a hand-signed parchment certificate of recognition by Giannini. The custom coin comes in a White House black velvet coin case and a two-piece White House Gift Shop outer gift presentation box.

On Wednesday, some Twitter users responded to the new coins online.

Editor's note: A previous version of this story incorrectly reported that the White House is selling the coins. The White House Gift Shop, which operates independently of the White House, is selling the coins. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution regrets the error.
