The long-running sign work on I-285 will continue this weekend, closing multiple lanes on several stretches of the Perimeter.

Here’s what you need to know to avoid the delays that the Georgia Department of Transportation says are likely:

Interstates 285 and 20 the hot spots

Sign structure work on the top-end Perimeter will close two lanes in each direction from Ga. 400 to Ashford Dunwoody Road, beginning at 7:30 p.m. Friday and continuing through 7 a.m. Saturday.

Eastside sign work will close two northbound lanes of I-285 from I-20 to Covington Highway from 7:30 p.m. Saturday until 7:30 a.m. Sunday.

On the southwest side of the Perimeter, sign work will require two northbound lanes closures between Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and Hollowell Parkway and one southbound lane closure from I-20 to Cascade Road from 9 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday.

The last of the sign work will block two northbound and one southbound lane of I-285 between Old National Highway and Camp Creek Parkway throughout the weekend.

Also on I-285, two northbound lanes will be closed between Bolton Road and South Atlanta Road throughout the weekend for concrete rehabilitation.

On I-20 westbound, three eastbound lanes will be closed all weekend from Joseph Lowery Boulevard to McDaniel Street for bridge joint repairs.

Also on I-20 westbound, motorists can expect two right lanes to be closed near the Downtown Connector all weekend while crews paint a MARTA bridge.

Weekend to begin dry, end wet

All of the road construction projects are weather-permitting, so they could be wrapping up early as rain moves into the forecast on Sunday.

Channel 2 meteorologist Brad Nitz said Saturday will be mostly cloudy and cool, with lows around 33, followed by afternoon highs around 45.

There’s a 70 percent chance of rain Sunday, and Nitz said the rain could begin as freezing rain before changing over to all rain as temperatures climb from morning lows around 34 toward afternoon highs of 43.

NASCAR, motorcycle races top weekend events

Part two of the Monster Energy Supercross motorcycle races will be held Saturday night at the Georgia Dome. South of Atlanta in Hampton, Atlanta Motor Speedway hosts a weekend of NASCAR racing.

In other weekend events, the Hawks play Orlando Friday night at Philips Arena, and Saturday night, the arena hosts a concert by Billy Joel.

The Ringling Bros. Barnum & Bailey Circus wraps up a run at the Gwinnett Arena on Sunday.
