Laila Marie Daniel, a toddler in a state foster home, suffered a broken leg last October.

Her foster mother, Jennifer Rosenbaum, told the state foster care agency that the break occurred at a gymnastics center.

A month later, Laila was dead. Rosenbaum has been charged with beating her to death.

Was Laila’s broken leg a red flag of abuse that would eventually take her life?

Could the death of this 2-year-old girl have been prevented?

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution's investigation found that the state caseworker never checked up on Rosenbaum's story about the leg break. Meanwhile, the staff at the gymnastics center say the girl was not enrolled there. She would accompany her sister there, but she just sat and watched, they said.

Rosenbaum’s lawyer said that’s not true.
