Two people killed in Lawrenceville wreck

Channel 2's Tony Thomas reports.

Two people were killed Monday morning in a multi-vehicle wreck in Lawrenceville, and about the same time, a second bad wreck shut down Ga. 316 westbound not far from the first collision.

The fatal wreck happened on Buford Drive, just north of Ga. 316 near Cripple Creek Drive.

Lawrenceville police Sgt. Chris Ralston said a Buick LeSabre being driven northbound on Buford Drive by Judy Ingram, 50, of Lawrenceville, crossed into the southbound lanes, hitting a Toyota Camry head-on.

Pablo Torreabla, 42 of Buford, was driving the Camry.

Ingram and Torreabla died, Ralston told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Two other vehicles, a Ford pickup truck and a Honda Accord, were also involved in the collision, but the pickup driver was uninjured and the Honda driver was treated at a local hospital and released.

The second wreck happened about 7:20 a.m. on Ga. 316 westbound near Harbins Road.

No fatalities were reported in that crash, which involved a garbage truck and a passenger car, but Gwinnett police Cpl. Michele Pihera said there was at least one serious injury and crews were working to extricate someone from one of the vehicles.

All westbound lanes of Ga. 316 were blocked, but have since reopened.
