An 81-year-old Atlanta man drove the wrong-way on the Downtown Connector Monday morning, causing a head-on collision that injured three people, authorities said.

Just after 11 a.m. Monday, John Cash drove his Chevrolet Cavalier north in the southbound I-75/I-85 HOV lane. Near the Fulton Street exit, Cash struck a Chrysler Sebring driven by Jeniece Blanchet, 20, of Fayetteville, Georgia State Patrol spokeswoman Tracey Watson said.

Cash, Blanchet and her 17-year-old passenger were all taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, Watson said.

Investigators do not know where the wrong-way driver got onto the interstate, officials said.

Charges are pending against Cash, Watson said.
