Road crews plan a lot of lane-closing construction this weekend, but rain could postpone some of those plans, particularly on Saturday.

Here’s a look at the scheduled work, which is all weather-permitting:

Hot spots will be I-75 north and south of Atlanta

The Express Lanes project will require motorists trying to enter I-75 southbound from the Canton Road Connector Friday night to go northbound on I-75 to Barrett Parkway, then exit and re-enter I-75 southbound from Barrett Parkway, beginning at 9 p.m. Friday and continuing through 5 a.m. Saturday.

The same project will also force motorists attempting to access Cobb Parkway from I-75 southbound to take I-285 westbound to Paces Ferry Road, then I-285 eastbound back to Cobb Parkway during the same hours.

In other Express Lane construction, two southbound lanes will be closed nightly between the South Marietta Parkway and Delk Road, one lane of I-75 in each direction will be closed all weekend from Chastain Road to Wade Green Road, two southbound lanes of I-75 will be closed at Barrett Parkway from 9 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Saturday and one lane of I-75 in each direction will be closed between Delk Road and Windy Hill Road during the same hours.

Sign structure work will close one northbound lane of I-75 at the Canton Road Connector from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday.

On the other side of town, work on the South Metro Express Lanes will shut down two lanes of I-75 southbound between Jonesboro Road and Ga. 20 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, while a northbound lane of I-75 will be closed between Ga. 20 and Hudson Bridge Road all weekend.

Just north of downtown up to three lanes of I-85 will be closed in each direction between the Brookwood Interchange and Ga. 400, beginning at 10 p.m. Sunday and continuing through 5 a.m. Monday.

Two westbound lanes of I-20 will be closed between Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and Hamilton E. Holmes Drive and two eastbound lanes of I-20 will be closed between I-285 and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive throughout the weekend.

Also on I-20, all eastbound and westbound lanes at Fulton Industrial Boulevard will be intermittently closed for utility work between 7 and 9 a.m. Saturday.

On I-285, two northbound lanes will be closed all weekend between Camp Creek Parkway and Langford Parkway, while two southbound lanes will be closed between South Cobb Drive and I-85. All lanes of I-285 in both directions at Bolton Road will be closed at times between 7 and 9 a.m. Sunday for utility work.

On the east side Perimeter, up to three lanes of I-285 in each direction between Chamblee Tucker Road and I-20 will be closed from 9 p.m. Saturday through 5 a.m. Monday.

Saturday likely to be a washout

Channel 2 meteorologist Karen Minton is forecasting a 100 percent chance of rain for Saturday, bookended by a 40 percent chance of rain on Friday and Sunday.

Saturday’s highs will be in the low 70s, but an approaching cold front will hold highs to the upper 50s on Sunday, Minton said.

Morning lows will be in the mid-60s Saturday and about 10 degrees cooler for Sunday.

Rain gear will be needed for Saturday football games, Veteran’s parade

Rain gear will come in handy for football fans headed to the University of Georgia’s noon home game against Kentucky, Kennesaw State University’s 1 p.m. game against Charleston Southern and Morehouse College’s 2 p.m. matchup against Lane College.

The rain gear won’t be needed for Georgia State University’s 2 p.m. game against the University of Louisiana-Lafayette, which will be played in the Georgia Dome.

Veteran’s Day isn’t until Wednesday, but Atlanta’s annual Veteran’s Day Parade steps off at 11:11 a.m. Saturday at Peachtree and West Peachtree streets. The parade will travel south on Peachtree to Baker Street, west on Baker to Marietta Street and south on Marietta. Those streets will be closed from 10:35 a.m. until 1 p.m.

In other events, the Hawks play the Wizards Saturday night at Philips Arena, the Cabbagetown Stomp & Stomp Chili Cook-off will be held Saturday at Cabbagetown Park and the Chastain Park Arts Festival will be held Saturday and Sunday at Chastain Park.
