A 26-year-old Georgia man died overnight after crashing his Nissan Maxima while exiting Interstate 95 at the southbound Belvedere Road exit, according to a Florida Highway Patrol spokesman.
Tahseen Tanzil of Lilburn, Ga. was driving in the southbound lanes of the interstate when he tried getting off at Belvedere Road around 11:30 p.m. He failed to negotiate the curved ramp and drove onto the grass shoulder. He hit a sign support pole, continued driving south and into a water retention pond.
The Maxima came to rest partially submerged in the pond on its roof.
Tanzil was taken to Good Samaritan Medical Center where he later died.
FHP troopers are investigating whether the use of alcohol played a role in the crash. It is unknown if Tanzil was wearing a seat belt.
The Belvedere ramp was closed for several hours and opened by 5 a.m.
