A double fatality accident at the Locust Grove Griffin Road overpass of I-75 in Henry County shut down all northbound lanes for more than two hours Monday, police said.

The lanes were shut down at about 5 p.m. after an accident involving a gray Chevy Tahoe out of Louisiana, Henry County police Capt. Joey Smith said.

“Preliminary investigation has revealed that the driver lost control of the vehicle while pulling a box trailer,” Smith said.

The identities of the people killed were withheld pending notification of their families.

Motorists traveling toward Atlanta from the Macon area were strongly encouraged to use alternate routes, as the incident caused about a six-mile backup, the Georgia Department of Transportation said in an alert.
