A man was thrown from his car and killed in a crash that shut down all or most southbound lanes of I-75 in Cobb County for hours early Thursday.
About 4:04 a.m., Brian Kibler lost control of his red BMW and struck a gray Infiniti south of North Marietta Parkway, Marietta police Officer Brittany Wallace said.
The impact of the collision caused the BMW to flip several times on the interstate. The Infiniti landed in a ditch.
Kibler, 43, of Marietta, was pronounced dead on scene,” Wallace said.
The driver of the Infiniti, Nicholas Boyett, 28, of Marietta, was taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital with minor injuries and released, she said.
The crash led to major backups in Cobb, Cherokee and Bartow counties at the height of the morning commute. Trip times from Wade Green Road to the Perimeter exceeded 2 hours at one point, the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center reported.
Though southbound lanes reopened just before 8 a.m., heavy delays remained an hour later.
Anyone with information about the deadly crash is asked to call Marietta police at 770-794-5364.
