Two men accused of stealing 39 iPads from a Paulding County Wal-Mart could be part of a larger crime ring targeting stores around the metro area, police said Monday.
On April 10 around 4 a.m., two men entered the store on Marietta Highway and went first to the office supply section, according to Cpl. Ashley Henson. After loading up a box containing a two-drawer filing cabinet, the duo then went to the electronics department, where they allegedly broke into the locked case holding iPads, Henson said.
The two men then put 39 iPads inside the file cabinet box and proceeded to the checkout line, according to police.
“Once they purchased the filing cabinet, they walked out of the store without question,” Henson said. “It was not until later that Wal-Mart officials realized the iPads had been stolen.”
Investigators are hopeful that surveillance images of the two leaving the store will help identify the pair. Anyone with information on the two should contact the Paulding sheriff’s office criminal investigation unit at 770-443-3015.
Although it’s not yet known if the same suspects in the Paulding theft were involved in other thefts, many metro Atlanta agencies have reported similar crimes.
On April 14, a man and a woman stole 33 iPads from the Covington Wal-Mart by concealing them in a large, plastic tote, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution previously reported. The alleged shoplifters, also caught on surveillance video, made off with nearly $15,000 worth of iPads shortly after 3 a.m., police said.
