Q: If Emory University is annexed into the city of Atlanta, would Druid Hills High School become a city of Atlanta school, since it would then be located on city of Atlanta property?

—J. Richard Estes, Atlanta

A: Druid Hills High School is not Emory property, is not part of Emory's annexation petition, and will remain in unincorporated DeKalb County, a spokesman for Emory University told Q&A on the News via email.

The school is part of the DeKalb County School System.

Q: How is the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers keeping Lake Lanier several feet below full with all the rain?

—Bill Brockman, Atlanta

A: The Corps of Engineers is not intentionally keeping the reservoir below the summer level of 1,071 feet, a spokeswoman for the Corps Mobile District told Q&A on the News via email.

“Our goal is (to) refill the reservoir every year. The reservoir level has increased 4.6 feet since mid-March, when rainfall in the basin returned to near normal,” wrote Lisa Hunter, chief of public affairs for the Corps Mobile District. “The combination of conservative operation and increased rainfall has resulted in higher levels at the reservoir.”

Continual rainfall above the dam needs to occur in order to refill the reservoir to the summer target level of 1,071, she added.
