Q: Did Mary Norwood go to the Republican Convention as a delegate? What year did the Republican Party put her name on the Fulton County Election Board?
—Paul Robinson, Atlanta
A: The Fulton County Republican Party nominated Mary Norwood to the Fulton County Board of Registration and Elections in January 2013. The Fulton Board of Commissioners approved her nomination later that same month.
In August 2013, the then former two-term Atlanta councilwoman and 2009 mayoral candidate qualified to challenge the incumbent for her old Atlanta City Council seat, Post 2 At-Large, the AJC previously reported. Before filing her declaration of intent to run, Norwood resigned her post on the elections board. She was elected later that year to the City Council. She is currently running for Atlanta mayor in the November election.
In her 2009 mayoral campaign, Norwood, a self-described independent, said in a campaign ad that she attended “a Republican convention once and disliked it so much that I’ve never been to another one, for either party.”
