Q: A jazz lover, I was wondering if the lovely jazz played on the Lincoln car commercials featuring Matthew McConaughey is available on a CD, iTunes, etc.
—Carol Gee, Stone Mountain
A: Miles Davis performed and recorded the songs featured in two recent Lincoln MKX commercials starring McConaughey.
“Au Bar du Petit Bac” is the soundtrack to the “Arrival,” the commercial in which McConaughey turns on the stereo in a Lincoln MKX and shows a couple dancing at one point.
“Generique,” also by Davis, is featured in another Lincoln MKX commercial called “The Winning Hand,” which shows McConaughey playing poker with three other men.
Both songs are on “Ascenseur pour l’échafaud,” an album by Davis that also was the soundtrack for a 1958 French movie by the same name, which was called “Elevator to the Gallows” when it was released in the United States.
“Ascenseur pour l’échafaud” is available in iTunes. “Generique” also is on “The Essential Miles Davis,” which also is on iTunes.
Q: With WABE changing formats, is there a radio station in Atlanta that plays predominantly classical music? I’m a sustaining supporter of WABE, but really miss the music I used to enjoy.
—Chuck Roberts, Sandy Springs
A: No Atlanta radio stations have a classical format.
SiriusXM offers Symphony Hall on Channel 76 and SiriusXM Pops on Internet channel 760.
WABE cut classical music from its format when it switched to news and arts programming.
