A South Cobb High School student has been charged as an adult in an alleged rape of a classmate inside the school, police said Friday.

Joshua Dunte Ingram, 16, of Austell, remained in jail without bond Friday following his arrest, according to Cobb County police. He has been charged as an adult because of the seriousness of the allegations, Sgt. Dana Pierce said Friday.

Ingram is accused of waiting for a girl in a stairway at the school, grabbing her, holding her against her will and sexually assaulting her in a corner shortly after 8 a.m. March 23, according to an arrest warrant. The girl is younger than 16 years old.

“Once the victim decided to leave, the said accused kept her from leaving,” according to the warrant. “At one moment during their encounter, the victim started to walk away and the said accused picked up the victim by the groin, carried her to one of the corners, and used his height to intimidate her and to keep her in the corner.”

Police investigated the case and secured an arrest warrant on Monday for him. Ingram was arrested Monday afternoon and charged with two counts of child molestation, rape and false imprisonment — all felonies.

Ingram was being held at the Cobb jail without bond Friday, booking records showed. The Cobb County Sheriff’s Office declined to release Ingram’s mug Friday afternoon, citing his age.

In an emailed statement, the Cobb school system said it is aware of the alleged incident, which remains under investigation.

Detectives are conducting additional interviews, Pierce said.
