So humans can’t ride on manatees, but alligators can? Apparently so.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission posted a photo of what appeared to be an alligator riding on top of a manatee on its Facebook page as part of a manatee photo contest. The alligator isn't really riding on the manatee, but the photo gives the appearance of the act.

"I would guess that these manatees were hanging out near warm water or heading to warm water and the alligator was looking for a sunny spot to hang out along the shoreline and they simply crossed paths," Ron Mezich with FWC told WKMG.

According to FWC, alligators don’t pose a threat to manatees “larger than a calf” as the two animals generally live in the same habitat. WKMG reports one incident of an alligator attacking a calf was recorded, but those are rare.
