The Georgia Department of Education has announced the U.S. Department of Agriculture's 2014-2015 guidelines for free and reduced-priced meals for school children.

An individual can qualify for free meals with an income of up to $15,171 and could get reduced-priced meals with an income of between $15,172 and $21,590. A student in a family of two can qualify for free meals with a family income of up to $20,449, and the student could qualify for reduced-priced meals if the family’s is between $20,450 to $29,101.

A student in a family of three could qualify for free meals if the family’s income is $25,727 or less. That student could qualify for reduced-priced meals if the family’s income is between $25,728 and $36,612.

A student in a family of four could qualify for free meals if the family’s income is $31,005 or less. That student could qualify for reduced-priced meals if the family’s income is between $31,006 and $44,123.

“It is important to provide our students with healthy, nutritious meals to help improve their chances of success and increase their learning opportunities,” School Nutrition Director Nancy Rice said. “Research indicates that eating habits affect learning. We want to ensure all our children are well nourished and ready to learn.”
