E-commerce firm Wayfair said Wednesday it will create 500 jobs and invest more than $8 million in a new call center operation in Athens.
Gov. Brian Kemp said the Boston-based company’s decision “is a testament to the economic development assets available in Athens-Clarke County and this region.”
The company has become one of the faster-growing retailers specializing in the home goods sector since it was founded in 2002. Wayfair now employs more than 13,300 people.
Athens-Clarke County Mayor Kelly Girtz said Wayfair’s development will become “part of a significant area of vitality and redevelopment that will continue in the months and years to come.”
