A bill that would increase the salary for the next Georgia governor passed the state Senate Friday.

House Bill 202, sponsored by state Rep. Jay Powell, R-Camilla, sets a minimum pay of $175,000 that would go into effect for 2018 election. It also includes out of state travel costs and changes provisions regarding expense reimbursement for members of the General Assembly.

The bill passed 48-3.

State Sen. Josh McKoon, R-Columbus, who voted against the bill, expressed concern over the systemic process fearing the ability to “pick and choose” would create a “haphazard mishmash.”

State Sens. P.K. Martin IV, R-Lawrenceville, Hunter Hill, R-Atlanta, Blake Tillery, R-Vidalia and Lindsey Tippins, R-Marietta did not vote.
