A group seeking to set up a “limited services” city in South Forsyth County has raised $26,000 for a study to determine its potential viability.

The study to be done by the Carl Vinson Institute of Government at the University of Georgia is a necessary pre-requisite for any new city wishing to incorporate in Georgia.

The goal is to see study results by early March and have a bill introduced in the 2015 state legislative session to set the stage for the creation of Sharon Springs, said Steve Benefield of the Sharon Springs Alliance.

He said tentative plans are for the city to offer planning and zoning, code enforcement and solid waste services.

The cityhood push was sparked by South Forsyth residents concerned about rampant growth and its effects, he said.
