Sorority to focus on political action at annual AKA Day at the Capitol

Feb 26, 2015

Hundreds of members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority will meet at the Gold Dome Monday to launch “New Dimensions of Political Action,” which will focus on the sorority’s program thrust around family strengthening with an emphasis on social justice and civil rights.

The original event was canceled earlier this month because of weather.

The event will begin at 8 a.m. Monday and include workshops on the family, civil rights and social justice. Members will also participate in a “Solidarity March,” and discuss ways to build long-term relationships with political leaders.

The march – which will be led by several members of the legislature who are members of the sorority — is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Capitol.
