A surface low-pressure system and stalled front draped along the Gulf Coast is the cause of showers and thunderstorms Thursday from the lower Mississippi Valley to the Southeast, according to the National Weather Service.

The National Weather Service is predicting risks for severe weather in South Georgia, southeast Alabama, and northern Florida. There is a moderate risk over far eastern Mississippi and central Alabama through early morning, when 1 to 3 inches of rain is possible.

Georgia, South Carolina and southern North Carolina are forecast to have another 1 to 2 inches of rain possible Thursday afternoon and evening.
