A second person has died after a crash late Monday that left a Fort Stewart soldier dead, according to news station WJCL, citing the Georgia State Patrol.
William Frasier, 31, drove a Dodge Dakota pickup truck westbound in the eastbound lane of East Oglethorpe Highway when he struck a Chevrolet Malibu driven by a 25-year-old Fort Stewart soldier about 10:30 p.m., according to GSP Trooper Markus White.
Frasier and the soldier died, WJCL reported.
A passenger in the soldier’s vehicle was taken to Memorial Hospital in Savannah, according to the news station. That person’s condition is unknown, the station reported.
The soldier’s next-of-kin has not been notified, according to Fort Stewart.
The soldier, who was pronounced dead at the scene, was not wearing a seat belt, according to WJCL, which cited White. Frasier was not wearing his properly, according to the news station, which cited White.
A tractor trailer also was involved in the crash when the driver did not see the collision ahead of him and sideswiped the pickup truck, WJCL reported.
The tractor trailer ended up in a ditch, but White said the driver was not hurt, according to the news station.
