The Georgia Department of Transportation has canceled lane-closing construction projects for the weekend, and that’s a good thing, because the wet weather forecast for late Saturday into Sunday won’t be very conducive for road work.
Channel 2 meteorologist Brian Monahan is predicting a 40 percent chance of rain Saturday afternoon and evening, increasing to 70 percent Sunday.
There’s a 60 percent chance of rain lingering into Monday morning, Monahan said.
The National Weather Service said 1 to 2 inches of rain is likely across metro Atlanta between Saturday and Monday, with a few thunderstorms possible on Sunday.
Afternoon highs will be in the upper 50s Friday, low 60s Saturday and Sunday and upper 50s Monday, Monahan said.
Morning lows will be around 40 degrees Saturday and in the low 50s Sunday and Monday. Check current conditions and track changes.
Sunday’s rain will put a damper on tailgating outside the Georgia Dome prior to the 4:30 p.m. match-up between the Falcons and Panthers.
