A Sandy Springs doctor pleaded guilty Monday morning to assaulting a young girl and was sentenced to 25 years in prison.
Kelly Thrasher, 41, was convicted in the November 2012 assault of a girl at a sleepover at his home, and pleaded guilty to child molestation and aggravated sexual battery. Thrasher also pleaded guilty to charges of identity fraud, forgery in the first degree and forgery in the second degree for obtaining a false passport, the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office said.
Thrasher was arrested Jan. 24, 2013, after his release from the Ridgeview Medical Center, where he entered himself after detectives initiated a criminal investigation into the molestation complaint, according to police. He was released from jail after posting $50,000 bond.
Then the following January, Thrasher was arrested again and accused of practicing medicine without a license, according to police.
While out on bond, Thrasher became the subject of nationwide manhunt in May when he failed to show up for a meeting with detectives, who charged him with identity fraud and forgery in a separate case. He was later located at a Miami hotel with $30,000 and arrested. He has been held since May 28 without bond in the Fulton County jail.
When detectives searched his laptop, pornographic images of children were found, police said in June. Thrasher was charged with four counts of sexual exploitation of a minor for those allegations.
According to the terms of his plea agreement, Thrasher must register as a sex offender and serve life on probation following his release from prison.
