Officials at Reinhardt University in Waleska spent last week evaluating more than 70 candidates who applied to become the schools 20th president.

The presidential search committee winnowed the pool down to eight candidates and three alternates, said Kelly Morris, an assistant to the school’s vice president for finance and administration. Off-campus, confidential interviews are planned for early January.

Current president J. Thomas Isherwood announced his retirement earlier this year, effective June 30. He’s headed the school for 13 years. Reinhardt is a comprehensive United Methodist-affiliated university and has served Cherokee County for more than 130 years.
