The USDA issued a recall of 172,692 pounds of frozen chicken fried rice products due to concerns that the product may be contaminated with extraneous materials, according to an announcement Friday by the agency.

Officials believe there are pieces of plastic in the Ajinomoto Yakitori Chicken with Japanese-style Fried Rice, which is made by Oakland, Mississippi-based Ajinomoto Foods North America. The 54-ounce packs of frozen food products were produced between July 9 and July 11, 2019, with various packaging and best by dates.

The products subject to recall bear establishment number “P-34708” inside the USDA mark of inspection. These products were shipped to retail stores in Georgia, Florida, Illinois, Maryland, Michigan, New Jersey and Texas.

“The problem was discovered after the firm (Ajinomoto) received consumer complaints,” reads a USDA recall statement. “There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products.”

Inspectors have concerns about the plastic pieces being consumed by those who purchased the meals, so consumers are asked to check their freezers for the product and corresponding establishment numbers.
