They dated, off and on, since they were teenagers.

Life seemed to be going well for Sheneika Freeman, who had just been promoted to sergeant in the U.S. Army, her friend, Amanda Davis, told Channel 2 Action News. Davis last saw Freeman, 26, Sunday morning but noticed nothing unusual.

Just a few hours later, Freeman and boyfriend Cedric Ryce were found dead in the warehouse of Towne Air Freight, where the 25-year-old Atlanta resident worked as a driver.

Clayton County police said a co-worker heard screaming inside the building, located in the 300 block of Trade Port Drive in Atlanta, around 1:30 p.m., followed by gunshots. Investigators, who found one firearm near the victim’s bodies, told Channel 2 no one else was involved in the shooting.

It’s unclear what prompted the incident and who fired the first shot.

“She had a good head on her shoulders and a lot going for herself,” Davis said of Freeman, who lived in Morrow. “Cedric had a lot going for his self too. He had a good head on his shoulders. Both of them were doing good.”

Davis said the couple truly cared for each other.

“He would never do nothing to hurt her and she would never, she never came across to me as hurting him,” Davis told Channel 2.

A press release from Clayton police said the shootings remain under investigation.
