Brookhaven police are searching for a suspect after a woman was stabbed while walking with her child along the Peachtree Creek Greenway.

About 5:30 p.m. Saturday, the woman and her child were approached by a man who attempted to talk to them, police said in a news release. When the woman tried to walk away, she was stabbed in the back.

The woman suffered serious injuries, but police expect her to survive. The child was not hurt.

Police released a photo of the suspect, who was wearing a white tank top, dark shorts and a hat with the word “Dope” written on it. The man, described as between 20 and 30 years old, ran away from the scene along the greenway. Police also said he’s about 5-foot-8 and weights approximately 160 to 180 pounds.

Before the incident, police said he may have been walking near Buford Highway and Corporate Boulevard, which is an access point to the greenway. Lt. David Snively said the stabbing took place near that access point.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact Brookhaven police at 404-637-0636 or submit an anonymous tip to the Crime Stoppers hotline at 404-577-8477.
