Police in New York City are reportedly looking for a drug dealer as part of the criminal investigation into the death of actor Michael K. Williams.

The acclaimed star of “The Wire” was found dead in his Brooklyn apartment Monday from an apparent drug overdose. Detectives who discovered narcotics inside the residence along with drug paraphernalia now want to locate the origin of the drugs, according to TMZ.

A pending autopsy and toxicology test are likely to provide more definitive answers to what exactly killed Williams, but it will likely be several weeks before those results are known.

The five-time Emmy-nominated actor, who also had roles in “Boardwalk Empire,” “12 Years a Slave” and “Lovecraft Country,” had been forthcoming in interviews about his struggles with addiction, saying he feared it would eventually lead to his downfall.

“But I’m living good today, you know,” Williams recently told podcaster Marc Maron in a discussion about his recovery and staying sober, according to the San Jose Mercury News. “All’s we got is today.”

The 54-year-old Williams was cast in numerous films and TV series, but was most renowned for his portrayal of Omar Little in “The Wire.”

The character — a street-wise bandit in the criminal underworld of Baltimore — was a crowd favorite near and far. Even former President Barack Obama once said that Omar was a big reason he became a fan of the show.
