While metro Atlanta has escaped stormy weather Tuesday, parts of Georgia to the south and west are under a severe thunderstorm watch.

Counties including Bartow, Chattooga, Douglas, Floyd, Gordon, Paulding and Polk are under a severe thunderstorm watch until 11 p.m., Channel 2 Action News reported.

LaGrange saw hail an estimated ¾-inch in diameter during the afternoon.

Isolated storms are possible throughout the evening, with large hail and damaging winds, Channel 2 chief meteorologist Glenn Burns said.

“Tomorrow is looking great with lots of sunshine and warm temperatures,” Burns said.

High are expected to be in the mid-70s, with lows in the mid-50s.

But rain will be back. There is a 70 percent chance of rain in the metro area Thursday and a 60 percent chance Friday before a clear weekend with highs in the mid-60s, Burns said.
