Dems’ actions on border are reckless

The American taxpayer by law has to provide welfare assistance to unlawful immigrants. These welfare benefits are food stamps, housing assistance, medical care and who knows what else. These are the same as those received by legal citizens, who have done things the lawful way and whose income potential is lessened as we pay those who have broken our laws. The Democratic Party sees nothing wrong with those who entered against our laws and cost our working taxpayers. These costs to our government far outweigh border security. It’s time for frontline news organizations to investigate the real cost to American citizens and make it front-page knowledge to their readers. Nancy and Chuck have led this Democratic charge that puts our country at risk, and it’s past time the real facts become known to the public at large.

Thank you for your article about the continuing tragedy of hot car deaths in America “Ga. contributes to record child hot car deaths toll,” (News, Jan. 4). It is good the public is reminded how common these events are. There are about 45 accidental hot car deaths every year. That wasn’t widely known in 2014 when Justin Ross Harris was arrested. The ongoing tragedy in Georgia is that Harris remains in prison for nothing more than being one of many distracted parents who accidentally left a child in a hot car. As AJC reporter Bill Rankin’s excellent podcast revealed, police leaped to their conclusion about Harris, based on a misattributed text message. Unable to prove intent, they assailed his character. But everyone who actually knew Harris backed his story. Not one of his accusers knew him at all.
