A firefighter has died and more than 100,000 people were without power Monday morning after a storm system blew through Middle Tennessee late Sunday.

Nashvillians and others in the Middle Tennessee area were awakened by a ferocious storm that down power lines throughout the neighborhoods and pulled trees from their roots, according to a Tennessean report.

A Maury County firefighter died as a result of the storm, officials reported Monday.

According to officials, the number of power outages that spread throughout the area was one of the largest in Nashville’s history, despite the city often being plagued by storms and tornadoes regularly.

In Davidson County, which encompasses Nashville, nearly 130,000 Nashville Electric Service customers lost power Sunday night, which electric company officials say is one of the largest in that area.

More than 96,000 NES customers remained without power as of Monday morning.

Another round of storms is expected Monday night, according to meteorologists.
