Newton County Sheriff’s deputies have identified the man killed in an early morning shooting as 30- year-old Quintarious Damareo Reed.
Reed was found with multiple gunshot wounds when deputies arrived at the Salem Terrace apartments and died at the scene while medics treated him, sheriff’s spokeswoman Felicia Jefferson said.
There are no arrests at this time, Jefferson said.
There were at least three men and three women in the apartment with a number of children, Jefferson said. Deputies found two handguns in the apartment, one of which may have belonged to Reed, she said.
The shooting happened about 2:30 a.m. at the apartment complex in the 3400 block of Salem Road. One of the women in the apartment said she was trying to leave about 2 a.m. and ran into Reed in the breezeway, who then forced her back into the apartment, Jefferson said.
The woman said Reed struggled with one of the men and shots were fired, and Reed was hit and one of the other men was grazed, Jefferson said. The other man was treated at a hospital.
The investigation is still continuing, Jefferson said.
