A Houston woman seen on a video dragging and throwing a puppy on a sidewalk lost custody of the animal and could face criminal charges.

A judge ruled that Cookie, a 9-week-old puppy, should be taken away from Tara Dycus, according to ABC 13. The dog will stay at the Houston Humane Society.

"I think a lot of time puppies know when they've been saved from a rough environment," Monica Schmidt, of the animal rescue group, told ABC 13. Cookie does not appear to have any health problems or injuries, rescue officials told ABC 13.

The district attorney is reviewing the case and could bring charges against Dycus.

Dycus has said that she did not mean any harm to Cookie.

"Losing your puppy is just like losing a child," she told ABC 13.
