A woman is accused of fatally beating her 5-month-old son to death in their Philadelphia home, police said Monday.

Nadirah Al-Kaabah, 35, was charged in the death of her son, Nayeem Kitchen, after she was arrested by Philadelphia police, KYW reported.

Police said Al-Kaabah. who has been arrested on 16 different occasions, admitted to striking the child with objects in his room, the television station reported.

Police were called to the third floor of a shared apartment-style home Saturday at 9:30 a.m. and found the boy unresponsive, according to KYW. The boy, who had bruises to his face and neck area, was pronounced dead at the scene, the television station reported.

"When I came out there were police in front of my door, police down the street and an ambulance," neighbor Russell Turner told KYW. "It's just a tragedy that it happens in our neighborhood."

According to court records, Al-Kaabah was on parole until 2022 for a previous conviction.
