Less than a week into her new position, President Donald Trump's latest press secretary, Stephanie Grisham, was jostled in North Korea while reporters in the country tried to block U.S. media access to Trump's Sunday meeting with Kim Jong Un, the leader of North Korea.
The Associated Press reported that Grisham had been bruised as North Korean guards pushed and shoved American reporters and media to stop them from entering.
The Washington Post reported that Grisham is heard in video footage inside the Inter-Korean House of Freedom in Panmunjom, Korea. She says, "Go, go!" to U.S. reporters who attempt to get cameras into the meeting. She pushes a North Korean media person out of their way to make room for the American media.
Trump's meeting with Kim lasted about 50 minutes at the Demilitarized Zone. He described the meeting as a "very good" one, but it is not clear if the meeting led to any change in denuclearization talks, the AP reported.
The New York Times reported that a last-minute tweet from Trump invited Kim to the DMZ, where Trump became the first sitting president to enter North Korea. CNN reported Trump took 20 steps before walking back into the DMZ.
Grisham was announced as the White House press secretary by first lady Melania Trump via Twitter on Tuesday. In her new role, she continues to work as Melania Trump's communications director.
