What to know now:
1. GOP debate uproar: The campaign staffs of many of the GOP candidates for president are upset at the Republican National Committee following Wednesday's debate in Colorado. According to reports, some of the campaign strategists will be meeting this weekend to consider cutting the RNC out of the debate process altogether. The campaigns and candidates were reportedly upset with the questions being asked Wednesday.
2. Tombstone death: The death of a 4-year-old boy who was crushed by a tombstone was not the fault of a cemetery association, a Utah jury has determined. Carson Dean Cheney was killed as he and his family took photos at a cemetery in Park City, Utah, in 2012. Carson's family was seeking up to $4 million in damages, claiming the cemetery association failed to maintain or warn visitors about the condition of an 1889 headstone.
3. Senate passes budget bill: It took until early Friday to get it done, but the Senate passed a bill that suspends the nation's debt limit, preventing the United States from defaulting on its obligations next week. The bill, which passed on a 64-35 vote, also increases spending on defense and domestic programs. The bill heads to President Obama's desk now.
4. Bubonic plague: An Oregon teenager has been diagnosed with the bubonic plague after going on a hunting trip in eastern Oregon. It's believed the girl got the disease after she was bitten by a flea. The girl is said to be recovering in an intensive care unit in a hospital in Bend, Oregon.
5. Mickey D's in the (school) house: A man who lost weight eating nothing but McDonald's meals is telling his story at schools across the county, and some are questioning whether allowing the fast-food giant onto campus is a good idea. John Cisna, who became a brand ambassador for the company after he lost more than 50 pounds eating at the chain, tells students about the healthy options available at McDonald's. Nutritionists and others have a problem with that pitch being served on campus.
